WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

OK, so it may not have been a classic BIG BROTHER series, but as we brace ourselves for tonight’s LIVE FINAL (9pm, Channel 5) I don’t think the winner’s in much doubt, do you?

It’s host Emma Willis, obviously. Yet again, our Em has put in such a consistently top-notch performance, enthusiasm-wise, even in the lean weeks, that we’re left to draw to one of only two possible conclusions. Either she really is the show’s ultimate fan (which, of course, is the best asset you could ask for in any TV presenter) or she’s a bloody brilliant actress (which of course is the second best). THINGS are almost as exciting tonight, but not quite because it’s only the semi-final, in CELEBRITY MASTERCHEF (9pm, BBC1). Of our original 20 contestants, all but eight have now been turfed out. For those still standing – namely, Chesney Hawkes, Sheree Murphy, Mica Paris, Sam Nixon, Rylan Clark, Kimberly Wyatt, Tom Parker and Scott Maslen – the next challenge is to cook for 70 staff at Blists Hill Victorian Town, an open-air museum in Shropshire. For this, they must use ingredients that were around in the 19th Century, including kidneys, herring and beef sirloin, but which have presumably been kept in the freezer since then so that nobody goes down with food poisoning. OAP INTERNET VIRGINS is a new Sky1 series (8pm) where YouTubers transform the lives of pensioners by teaching them the wonders of the online world. First up, bloggers Niki and Sammy meet affable 84-year-old George, most of whose time these days is devoted to being his wife’s primary carer.
