MOORE HOPEFUL OF AN EARLY RETURN
RYAN MOORE is back home after a further check-up following his fall at Newmarket last Thursday.
The former champion suffered a neck injury when his mount, Newton’s Law, reared up and became trapped under the stalls before the final race on the opening day of the July meeting.
Moore was able to walk away from the scene but was reported to be complaining of severe pains in and around the neck area.
He was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where he underwent further examination, which is understood to have included investigation into potentially damaged vertebrae.
Moore, 31, had an MRI scan on Friday after which his father Gary said his son was likely to be out of action “for possibly more than a month”.
“He had further check-ups today but everything’s fine,” said the rider’s mother, Jayne.
“He’s a bit battered and bruised but he’s fine. Hopefully he will be back soon, but I don’t know how soon. Knowing Ryan, he won’t be back until he’s 100 per cent.”
Moore’s agent Tony Hind added: “Ryan rang me this afternoon. He said he’s all okay and he’ll be out for a while.”
Moore had been odds-on to win the jockeys championship for a fourth time before bookmakers suspended betting following the accident.
He is two winners clear of Silvestre De Sousa in the title race.
