Jacklin’s Jug fears

He said: “I suppose the same must have been happening when I was playing but I didn’t have time to spot future heroes, I was too busy trying to beat people.

“I was immersed in my own dreams but undoubtedl­y Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino were my big rivals. But then somebody from over there always seems to pop up.

“It is a continuall­y changing scene and right now America has been making tremendous strides in terms of developing new talent and there are a couple in their early twenties there who haven’t made their mark.

“Spieth is a phenomenon. I can’t see beyond him this week.”
