Four years’ jail for 300,000 murders
AUSCHWITZ book-keeper Oskar Groening has been jailed for four years for his role in the murder of 300,000 Jews.
A German court found the 94-yearold guilty of being an accessory to mass murder during World War Two.
He was responsible for counting the belongings confiscated from prisoners and admitted “moral guilt”. But judge Franz Kompisch said he had taken a “safe desk job” in “a machinery designed entirely for the killing of humans, a system that was inhumane and all but unbearable for the human psyche”.
Holocaust survivors released a joint statement saying: “SS members such as Groening who took part in the murder of our families have created lifelong and unbearable suffering for us.”
