Singer found fame too hard to handle

POP beauty Ellie Goulding has confessed she hit the bottle before she met McBusted boyfriend Dougie Poynter.

The Love Me Like You Do star admitted she was “in trouble” as she struggled to handle the pressure of fame.

She credits 2011 I’m A Celebrity champ Dougie with helping her straighten out her life.

And she has dedicated the song Two Years on her new album to their time together. Ellie, 28, said: “It’s about two years ago which is before I met my boyfriend.

“It’s pretty amazing stuff and he’s a pretty incredible person. It’s so easy to write about because there are so many interesting things about him.

“Before that, I went through a really hard time – just struggling with having a No 1 song.

“That was a time when I couldn’t deal with anything. I was drinking and I was not really myself.

“It’s only when you come out of that phase you realise you were in trouble.”

The singer found stardom at 22 after she was spotted by a record producer.

Her debut album Lights shot to No 1, sold over 850,000 copies in the UK and landed her the Critics’ Choice gong at the BRIT Awards. She told a US style website that she struggled being away on tour but performing live had improved her as an artist.

McFly bassist Dougie, 27, has admitted he spent time in rehab for depression and alcohol abuse before he met Ellie.
