A SCHOOLGIRL who almost died after taking ecstasy has shown how it left her brain damaged and with slurred speech.

Brave Amy Thomson,16, struggled to speak as she recorded a video, warning of the devastating effect the party drug can have.

The wheelchair-bound girl suffered brain injuries after taking a pill at an “ecstasy party” in June and was put in an induced coma at hospital.

Three other girls were taken into intensive care.

In the video Amy slurs: “Thank you everyone, thanks for your support everyone.”

Amy, from Glasgow, has been left barely able to talk and has restricted movement. Her family said she had made huge strides and hoped she would continue to recover.

Ecstasy, known as MDMA, became popular on the dance scene in the 1980s and 90s. Nearly 600 people died taking it between 1996 and 2012.

Campaigners said it can cause brain damage, memory loss, panic attacks, paranoia and death.

Amy’s cousin Kalya said it was important people knew the extent of her injuries.

She wrote on Facebook: “This is what a tiny pill can do to you. If this isn’t an eye-opener for everyone who continues to take the stuff, I dunno what is.”

Amy’s aunt Annie added: “She’s in a wheelchair and her speech is impaired, but she will keep improving. I’ve no doubt she’ll lead a full and happy life.”

Two women and a man were arrested on drug offences.
