WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

SO, did you watch the first episode of BBC1’s new drama CAPITAL last week? If not, try to catch up with it on the iPlayer. It’s really good – centred on the residents of a South London street being plagued by menacing anonymous messages – and it’s only going to run for three episodes, so we’re hardly talking high-commitment.

Tonight, in episode two (9pm, BBC1), the campaign against these people of Pepys Road, seemingly triggered by the fact their homes are shooting up in value at a crazy rate, becomes even more threatening, as various small dead animals are posted through their letter boxes, again bearing the cryptic message: “We want what you have.”The residents unite to demand more action from the police, whose only arrest so far has been the irrelevant incarceration of that poor traffic warden lady, Quentina. (Yes, a drama that actually has me feeling sorry for a traffic warden, who’d have thought it..?)

We also see poorly Petunia passing away, but not before her shifty grandson has whispered some kind of presumably significant secret in her ear, plus serial-shagging builder Bogdan making a shocking discovery. CHAS is seriously losing the plot in (7pm, ITV). Last night it was that crazy hallucination, where a vision of Robert appeared before her with blood pouring from his chest (at the bit where she cried: “Robert, you’re bleeding!”, I really wanted him to reply: “Chas, you’re bleeding mental...”). And tonight? Picking up moments later, she screams and does a runner into the woods, convinced he’s chasing her.
