T20 CRICKET JORDAN’S SO SUPER

-

ENGLAND clinched a T20 series whitewash over Pakistan last night thanks to a nerveless ‘super over’ from Chris Jordan.

The game finished in a tie in Sharjah when the hosts matched England’s 154-8 from their 20 overs, finishing on 154-7.

But Jordan bowled a brilliant deciding six balls, conceding just three runs and taking a wicket with his final delivery.

Even then England almost made a mess of it, taking just two off Shahid Afridi’s first four balls.

But Eoin Morgan sprinted back for a second run to seal it and England had squeezed home for a 3-0 series win.

Pakistan had been favourites when they needed five from the last four balls of their innings.

But Chris Woakes also bowled well at the death and the hosts could only tie.

A 3-0 win over Pakistan and victories in solitary T20s over New Zealand and Australia last summer gave England an unbeaten 2015 in the shortest format.

“It is a great way to end a fantastic tour,” said skipper Morgan. “We wanted to see more guys in pressure situations.

“Given we don’t have the benefit of a particularly strong domestic T20 tournament, it is great to see how players perform under the pump.”

James Vince opened yesterday and anchored the innings, his patient 46 seeing England past 150 despite a collapse.

Allied to his 41 and 38 in the first two games, he has surely done enough to book a spot on the plane to India for the World T20 in March.

Sam Billings, with his 53 from 25 balls in the first match, Woakes, Jordan, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley and Liam Plunkett have all also shown they have the talent for the tournament. CHRIS CAIRNS was yesterday cleared of perjury and perverting the course of justice.

The former New Zealand all-rounder was acquitted by a jury at Southwark Crown Court.

He was accused of lying during a libel action against Lalit Modi, ex-boss of the Indian Premier League, in 2012. Modi had accused Cairns of match-fixing.
