Luks better

Long-serving centre-half Mike Williamson has been recalled from a loan spell at Wolves due to Jamaal Lascelles’ hamstring injury.

Steve McClaren is under mounting pressure from fans to axe out-of-sorts skipper Coloccini for Sunday’s visit of Liverpool.

But with Lascelles sidelined and Paul Dummett needed at left-back due to Massadio Haidara’s long-term absence, the Toon chief has limited options.

He can stick with a confidence-shot defence which has leaked eight goals in the last two games or throw in Williamson, a player McClaren had previously deemed surplus to requirements.

Williamson (left) joined the club from Portsmouth in 2010 and has made 150 appearances for the club.

His only two outings for the Magpies this season came in the Capital One Cup with Coloccini, Mbemba, Lascelles and even youngster Kevin Mbabu ahead of him in the pecking order.

The 32-year-old, however, has enjoyed a new lease of life in the Black Country. He has been the mainstay of a Wolves defence which has kept three clean sheets in the past month.

Few Toon fans shed any tears when Williamson was loaned out but such is their lack of faith in Coloccini these days, his recall against Jurgen Klopp’s in-form LUKASZ FABIANSKI believes Swansea’s latest defeat could prove a turning point.

The keeper stands in the way of Jamie Vardy and high-flying Leicester on Saturday.

Swansea have slipped to within four points of the bottom three after just one victory in 10.

But Fabianski insists the Swans have rediscovered their confidence despite losing 1-0 at Liverpool on Sunday.

He said: “The performance at Liverpool could be the turning point for us.

“We didn’t get the result we deserved. But finally, after a few weeks, the performance was better. That will give us a boost for the coming weeks

“We showed we can still compete against the top sides and play good football.

“If we keep building and working on that, the results will definitely come in the coming weeks.” side would now be welcomed. The defender was due to stay at Wolves until the New Year and his exit is a bitter blow to boss Kenny Jackett.

“Mike has brought a lot of experience and physical presence to the back four,” he said.

“He has been a credit to himself as a professional, helping players around him at a time when we have had a number of injuries.”
