RUGBY UNION HIT THEM FOR SIX!

Brown’s rallying cry

- By PETE SAMSON

MIKE BROWN has told his England team-mates there can be no excuses if they do not win the 2016 Six Nations crown.

The star full-back says England have to make up for their World Cup humiliation when they did not even make it out of the group stages on their own turf.

Brown, who will be out to impress new head coach Eddie Jones, said: “I’m not a player that settles for coming second. We are England – we want to win. We expect ourselves to win.

“That’s not being arrogant, that’s just the way we are.”

Brown also dropped a hint he is ready to take over the England captaincy from his under-fire Harlequins team-mate Chris Robshaw – if Jones offers it.

He added: “At the moment Chris Robshaw is the England captain. Until Eddie says otherwise, he remains the England captain – and he’s done a brilliant job.

“I haven’t really thought about it because that role is filled, but being the captain of any team is a great honour and you would be flattered to be asked.

“Once the team is picked, then the coach looks at the captain. I’m focused on getting in that team first and foremost.

“I want to be involved in the squad that puts things right – that’s something that we desperately want to do.

“None of us know whether we’re going to be involved. The shirt is never just given to you. You have to earn the right every time.”

England will play South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and Australia in the 2016 autumn internationals.

The Springboks are first up at Twickenham on November 12.
