Cahill signs on

- By PAUL BROWN

GARY CAHILL has ended speculation about his Chelsea future by signing a new four-year contract.

The Blues have a strict policy of only handing one-year extensions to players over the age of 30.

So time was running out for Cahill, who turns 30 later this month, to agree the longer deal he wanted.

But the England defender, whose contract was set to run out at the end of the season, has now put pen to paper. He said: “I’m really pleased to commit my future to Chelsea and it’s great that the club have put their faith in me.

“I have achieved a lot here and I hope I can keep on learning, helping the team and lifting trophies over the next four years.”

But Branislav Ivanovic, 31, looks set to leave the club, with Inter Milan keen to sign him on a free next summer. that gets in and around the box and creates and scores goals. That’s great for us to have. Every team needs a player like that.”

Suarez made a stunning impact at Anfield, scoring 82 goals in 125 starts.

He finished the 2013-14 campaign with 31 goals in 33 games to win the Premier League Golden Boot and was voted PFA Player of the Year before joining Barcelona for £75m.

Sterling is convinced former Chelsea star De Bruyne can be just as good.

“It’s always a test for players to come to England, play regularly and contribute but that’s what he’s done. Credit to him, he’s been incredible.”

Meanwhile, Sterling admits he is loving the quiet life at City.

The pressure has been on him to perform ever since he joined from Liverpool in the summer for £49m.

After he often made headlines for the wrong reasons at Anfield, Sterling says he is doing his best to keep his head down as part of City’s star-studded squad.

He said: “It’s been good. I feel relaxed, I try to keep working and will hopefully achieve something at the end of the season.

“I like how quiet it is up here. I live out of the way of the city centre and it is really good to get your head down, work hard and achieve what I want to achieve.

“As long as I’m contributing to the team, which I think I am, that’s the most important thing.

“I might not be a nine or 10 out of 10 every game, but as long as I’m helping the team win, that’s the most important thing. I feel like I’m doing well.”
