Ron in for Ton

- By ALEX CROOK

Starsport revealed earlier this season that Real bosses had decided not to do future business with United after blaming them for the collapse of De Gea’s £25m switch to Madrid.

The goalkeeper was desperate to join Real, but the deal fell through at the 11th hour after the necessary paperwork was not registered in time.

De Gea went on to sign an improved deal at United worth £200,000 a week that is understood to include a buy-out clause of £40m.

United were hoping to use De Gea as bait in a potential deal to sign Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo.

But it is understood Real have no intention of selling their prize assets to United.

Questioned about Bale’s future, Zidane said: “Gareth was disappointed with the sacking of Rafa because he was an important coach for him but I will treat him the same way Rafa did.

“He’s phenomenal and we’re going to give him all the care and support he needs.” RONALD KOEMAN has stepped up his interest in Feyenoord midfielder Tonny Vilhena while insisting Victor Wanyama will stay at Southampton.

Wantaway Wanyama, 24 – a target for Arsenal – is not for sale, even though Saints bosses have reassessed their transfer plans in case the Kenyan forces through a move.

Vilhena has been a long-term target of Koeman but there are worries the Holland Under-21 ace could struggle to adapt to the Premier League like summer signing Jordy Clasie.

Koeman is also adamant striker Sadio Mane will remain at St Mary’s until the summer.

Mane is a top target for Manchester United, Chelsea along with European heavyweights Bayern Munich and PSG.
