WHAT’S HOT TO WATCH TODAY

- MIKE WARD

OBVIOUSLY we’ve been starved of live sport lately on terrestrial TV, so thank God for the start of WIMBLEDON 2016. This, of course, is the year when Andy Murray will put that pesky Novak Djokovic in his place by reclaiming the men’s singles title – and when, in the women’s competition, Britain’s Johanna Konta will more than justify her 17th seeding by turfing out one of the favourites.

Yeah, like I’ve got a clue about tennis...

Anyway, the BBC, as ever, will have comprehensive coverage across both terrestrial channels, hosted by Sue Barker and starting today at 11.30pm on BBC2. That, plus the usual red button options, covering all the stuff on the outside courts featuring people you’ve never heard of.

Oh, and rather guttingly, the evening highlights show (8.30pm, BBC2), hosted by Clare Balding, will no longer be called Wimbledon2Day, as it was last year – shame, what a clever, witty title that was – but, get this, TODAY AT WIMBLEDON. Also, it’s reverting to the old format, where Clare talks to people who actually know about tennis, rather than random numpties who’ve been herded into the studio. WHAT do tomatoes, red wine and soya beans have in common? Well, funny you should ask, even though you didn’t, because they all come under scrutiny in SUPERFOODS: THE REAL STORY (8.30pm, Channel 4).

Red wine, some reckon, can fight dementia. Tomatoes, it’s suggested, can help prevent prostate cancer. Soya can keep you looking young. “But are these claims a pile of crap?” asks host Kate Quilton, admittedly not using quite those words.
