MY PAL DONALD TRUMPS ’EM ALL

Farage is No1 fan of tycoon

- By JEFF FARRELL jeff.farrell@ dailystar.co.uk

NIGEL Farage has backed Donald Trump for the White House, saying he could be a “huge success” like Ronald Reagan.

The outgoing UKIP leader supported the US presidential candidate after sharing his campaign platform.

He admitted the tycoon has “appeared aggressive” with his bullish rhetoric but argued he was not the “monster painted by many”. And he reckons Mr Trump could “sensibly make the big decisions” needed if he makes it to the Oval Office.

Mr Farage roused the tycoon’s Republican supporters to applause last week when he egged them on to “smash the establishment” like Brexit did.

He whipped up a frenzy after stepping on to the podium to talk up Mr Trump’s bid for the White House against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

While Mr Farage did not overtly back the billionaire for the presidency when he spoke to his followers in Jackson, Mississippi, by yesterday he had changed his tune.

Mr Farage said: “Trump has made a lot of mistakes. But I don’t believe that he is the monster painted by many. “Virtually everyone thought Ronald Reagan was unfit to be the US president before he made a huge success of his two terms. “Having met him [Trump] and having spoken to him, I am far less worried.” Last night, an Ipsos survey put Mrs Clinton ahead of Mr Trump by five points. Despite the blip, Mr Farage said Mr Trump was running his campaign with the spirit of the ‘Leave’ campaign in the EU Referendum by targeting the “little people” to “smash the establishment”. And he called on Prime Minister Theresa May not to delay in triggering Article 50 to pull Britain out of the EU. He said: “She has said that Brexit means Brexit. “Given that there is now a global debate on this she had better mean it.” Mrs May and her Cabinet will meet on Wednesday when they are set to debate ideas on how to get the best deal for Britain following the Brexit vote.
