That defeat was in his first race at Romford. The hugely impressive manner of his semi-final victory last week, when he put the race to bed at the first bend, has made him a very warm favourite.

Tomorrow sees the semi-finals of the Steel City Cup at Sheffield and two of last year’s finalists can land their respective qualifiers and set up a rematch in the final.
Last year’s winner MINGLERS THUNDER (8.58) won his heat easily enough and although his time was not flashy, he will come on for the run as he had been off the track for six months.
Barry Draper’s BALLYMAC MOSSJOE (9.14) loves Sheffield, having won 11 out of 16 there, can land the second semi.
TO TONE STEVE (8.14) rapidly worked his way up the grades from A7 in October last year to winning an A1 in January this year.
