ARSENE WENGER is only still in charge at Arsenal because they have lost their ambition.

Wenger has done fantastic things for the Gunners and to spend 20 years at one club is an incredible achievemen­t.

But it’s too long. Any other big club would have sacked him by now.

Arsenal should be in the title race every year. They should be fighting for it every April but there’s not been too many seasons like that.

They haven’t won the league in 12 years. They haven’t won a single European trophy since the team I played in won the Cup Winners’ Cup 22 years ago.

He’s had 20 chances and failed too often. That’s not good enough for Arsenal.

When they last won the league, they did it without losing a single game. The base was there, they should have gone on to win it at least two or three more times.

Hurting

Wenger was ahead of his time when he first arrived in the Premier League. But football has caught up. Eight or nine years ago, everybody wanted to play for him – I really believe that.

But since then it’s changed. He’s stuck in his ways and he refuses to change. It’s actually hurting the club now.

But they won’t sack him. He still makes the club money. Arsenal are not going belly up and the board still have faith in him – but is that enough?
