Train man’s ‘Muslim’ slur

A TRAIN passenger refused to sit next to Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain because she is a Muslim.
Nadiya, who won the BBC show last year, was told by the man: “I ain’t sitting near a Muslim.”
The Luton-born star has become one of the highest-profile Islamic celebrities in the UK since her Bake Off victory.
But she revealed on Twitter: “A man refused to sit next to me on the train today. His ignorance is his own ruin.”
The British-Bangladeshi baker’s fans were outraged by the racial slur and leapt to her defence following Wednesday’s incident.
Ignorance
Rav Bansal, a contestant in this year’s Bake Off, said he had also been racially abused recently.
Sikh baker Rav told mum-ofthree Nadiya: “You are a much better person then he will ever be.”
Another fan wrote: “However long I live, I will never understand the ignorance of prejudice, I will always sit next to you.”
And one Twitter user even started a hashtag trend for #WeWouldAllSitWithNadiya.
British Transport Police has asked the star to contact them so they can investigate the shock incident.
They tweeted: “This behaviour is unacceptable.”
Nadiya, who hosts cooking show The Chronicles Of Nadiya, has been tipped to front a new BBC series alongside Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.
It could rival Channel 4’s revamped Bake Off after their old show’s producers Love Productions and judge Paul Hollywood defected.
