Swans fan Marley’s mission

KALAS EYES REPEAT

- By DARREN WITCOOP

MARLEY WATKINS will enjoy celebrating if he scores for Barnsley at Cardiff today.

The Tykes winger is a selfconfessed Swansea fan who grew up despising the neighbours down the road.

Watkins began his career with the Swans before making his way to Oakwell, where his career has taken off.

The Welshman has international ambitions and gunning down Cardiff will do his chances no harm.

The 26-year-old said: “A win ® would mean a lot to me. I grew up as a big Swansea fan and used to go to the matches at the old Vetch Field.

“And I remember sitting in the Liberty Stadium stands when the Swans beat Cardiff a few years ago. I’d love a repeat.

Respect

“There is a big rivalry in Wales between the clubs. My brother and friends are all Swans supporters and they will be rooting for me.

“You have to show some respect ®Êby DARREN WITCOOP to the opposition and I will be focused on the game. But it’s not about me, it’s about Barnsley earning the right result.”

Lewisham-born Watkins moved across the Severn Bridge as a kid and would love to pull on a Wales shirt.

Catching the eye today would boost his prospects and Watkins, who is back from a ban, added: “Its always been a dream.

“I just have to keep performing well and hope a chance arises.

“Chris Coleman has shown he is not afraid to select players outside of the Premier League, so you can’t give up hope.”
