Eubank TV charge not fair on fans

- Interview by CHRIS McKENNA

CHRIS EUBANK JNR against Renold Quinlan on pay-per-view TV? They should be paying the fans to watch this rubbish and not the other way around!

The only reason I didn’t go “who the hell is that?” when Eubank’s lot announced this fight is because I had tried to get him to face one of my fighters.

That was to take on our promising super-middleweight Vijender Singh this weekend in India.

We have high hopes for Singh but he has had just seven professional fights and we would have expected him to beat Quinlan, who has lost one of just 12 bouts.

That is the level Eubank Jnr will be mixing with for this so-called pay-per-view fight.

Eubank Jnr (below) claimed it was a relief to relinquish the British middleweight title when he withdrew from a clash with Tommy Langford, citing an elbow injury.

He talked about how much danger the health and lives of these contenders are facing in his statement giving up the belt.

Well, Langford is 18 fights unbeaten and has faced far stiffer competition than Australia’s Quinlan, so how is this guy not in danger too then?

Eubank Jnr has turned down fights with Billy Joe Saunders and Gennady Golovkin in the last 12 months.

Now they are trying to sell him as some sort of pay-per-view star.

This is all a load of nonsense – and they are calling the IBO belt that is on the line a real world title? More rubbish.

It is great to see ITV back in boxing, but I cannot believe they have been sold this fight.

The fans are the ones getting punished again and I just hope this doesn’t turn them or the broadcaster off the sport.

Meanwhile, Bernard Hopkins bows out from the sport tonight at the age of 51 with his 67th fight against Joe Smith.

What an example he has been over almost 30 years.

He turned his life around after spending time in prison and kept himself in shape with stunning dedication.

Hopefully the former middleweight and lightheavyweight champion can go out with a win.
