KATE and Gerry McCann have blasted claims they plan to make a fortune from the 10th anniversary of daughter Madeleine’s disappearance.

Spokesman Clarence Mitchell denied allegations in the Portuguese press that the parents were taking fees for interviews.

He said: “They want to make it clear that they are not making any money out of Madeleine’s disappearance.

“Any claims are spurious nonsense but fit in with the Portuguese agenda.”

The couple are bracing themselves for the 10-year anniversary in less than three months.

Madeleine, then aged three, vanished from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007.

They face financial ruin after losing a £1million libel case against former detective Goncalo Amaral, who said in a book and TV show he believed their daughter was dead. The McCanns, both 48-year-old doctors from Rothley, Leics, have been ordered to pay his legal costs.

Mr Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry have not decided on any media interviews surrounding the anniversary yet. If any deal is done it will be extremely limited and no payment will be involved.

“Any suggestion that they will be paid is completely inaccurate and utter rubbish.”

The couple believe their daughter was abducted and could still be alive.
