Let’s not hurry urges Murray

- by CHRIS HATHERALL

GLENN MURRAY wants Brighton to ‘keep calm and get promoted’ after he inspired them to another vital three points.

Murray’s 19th goal of the season has put his side within touching distance of the Premier League as they prepare to face Birmingham tomorrow.

Chris Hughton’s outfit are second – and nine points clear of third-placed Huddersfield – with only seven games to go.

Murray, who celebrated his winner with a ‘stay calm’ gesture to the Amex crowd, has called for focus.

“The celebration was just a way of saying that I think we all need to relax and enjoy the moment, not get too nervous or carried away,” he said.

“It is natural for any team trying to get automatic promotion to the Premier League that it gets edgy.

“Brighton have gone close a few times and it hasn’t quite happened yet. So we don’t want that to happen again. We just need to calm down and enjoy what is happening.”

The only low point for Albion was the performance of on-loan Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom, who was booed off by some fans when subbed in the second half.

“I can’t see how fans can get on the back of Chuba, that is exactly what we don’t want,” Murray said.

“He was trying his best – and they wouldn’t do that if he curled one in from 25 yards. It’s fickle in my eyes. We need to stick together.”

Blackburn need to do the same. This result leaves them in the bottom three ahead of tomorrow’s tough trip to Reading.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray said: “The plan was to come and make Brighton nervous and we’ll have to do the same at Reading. But we need wins. It’s not about anything now other than staying in this league.”
