COLIN TIZZARD hijacked Ladies’ Day at Aintree when he was the one everybody wanted to take a selfie of after saddling a 4,334-1 treble.

“It’s amazing this racing game,” said Tizzard when 50-1 shot Ultragold completed the accumulator in the Randox Topham Chase.

Pingshou set the ball rolling for the popular Dorset trainer. He won the Crabbie’s Top Novices’ Hurdle in the hands of Robbie Power, recently appointed the retained rider for Alan and Ann Potts, the winning owners.

“I sat him on him at Colin’s and absolutely loved him,” said Power, who rode Sizing John to victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup for the Potts.

“He’s really going to come to himself next season when he goes chasing.”

Power, 35, successful in the Grand National 10 years ago with Silver Birch, believes the ground has come right for Regal Encore, his mount in today’s marathon.

“He’s got some form which gives him a chance and I’m pleased with the ground,” said Power. “If you forget about his recent runs when he disappointed, he has the ability to run a big race.”

Power and Tizzard joined forces to take the JLT Melling Chase with Fox Norton.

“It’s a pleasure for me to be riding horses like ® this,” said Power. “He ran a cracking race in the Champion Chase when second to Special Tiara.

“He has a great cruising speed and is very relaxed. He could be a King George horse next season but we also have Sizing John but it’s a nice problem to have.”

Just to rub it in for his rival trainers, Tizzard believes he has another star under his care in the former Irish pointer Flemenshill, who the Potts recently bought for £480,000.

“Robbie (Power) recently sat him on,” said Tizzard. “He said he was the best four-year-old he’s ever sat on.”

The quirky Might Bite was on his best behaviour as he landed the Betway Mildmay Novices’ Chase in the hands of Nico de Boinville.

“No funny antics today which was a relief,” said winning trainer Nicky Henderson, also responsible for Whisper, the second home.

“I was worried about him going around the bend where the stables are. Also, he kept straight after the last fence today, and he needed that last fence as he jumped so well. It helped him beat Whisper.

“At Cheltenham, as we all know, Might Bite went right and nearly threw away the RSA.”

Henderson thinks Might Bite can go right to the top next season.
