CLEARING THE DECKS

Warnock already planning ahead CHANCE FOR CHANCEL

-

NEIL WARNOCK says he already knows the players he will axe in the summer.

Cardiff were in the relegation zone when Warnock took over as boss in October, but he has steered them clear of trouble.

He is eyeing a record eighth promotion next season, with his summer plans already in place.

Warnock (below) said: “I know who I want to keep and move on. I’m more or less 90 per cent sure of what I want to do.

Earners

“But that’s easier said than done when people are under contract.”

One of those likely to be on his way is striker Rickie Lambert, 35, who hasn’t played since February 11.

“Rickie is training but I don’t think he’s happy with his ®Êby JAKE BACON fitness,” said Warnock. “He’s going to be training hard and trying to get back in the squad. “Is he better than the others in the squad at the moment? I haven’t thought so.” High-earners Bruno Manga and Peter Whittingham are out of contract in the summer, while Declan John and Emyr Huws aren’t in Warnock’s plans. But Junior Hoilett, whose short-term deal runs out in June, is set to extend his stay in Wales. The Canada winger was signed as a free agent following Warnock’s appointment and has been an ever-present, featuring 28 times.

Praise

Warnock added: “He’ll be here next year. I’m very optimistic of that.”

Cardiff host Brentford today and Warnock is full of praise for Bees boss Dean Smith.

“He has done a really good job there,” said Warnock.

“They lost their top scorer Scott Hogan, but they’ve just carried on.” ®Êby IAN MURTAGH
