BRITS' DANK HOLIDAY SOAKING
Weekend is a washout but don’t worry, the sun will be back in time for return to work
THE washout Easter bank holiday is likely to continue today.
But sunshine is set to return once we are all back at work.
Bitter winds and rains ruined the long weekend as temperatures took a nosedive.
In Blackpool, traders hoping to take advantage of holidaymakers enjoying a day at the seaside had to admit defeat in driving rain.
Down south it was slightly better as a few brave souls wrapped up to visit beaches, but the numbers were far fewer than last weekend when the mercury topped 25C.
Forecaster Emma Salter said: “It is going to be particularly cold from Monday onwards.
“We could see lows of -6C or even a -7C early on Tuesday morning, really quite chilly for the time of year.
“Rain will spread southwards on Monday pulling cold Polar Maritime from the Arctic region, making it feel really chilly with the risk of some wintriness over the northern hills with sleet likely to lower levels.
“Elsewhere the bank holiday will be cloudy with the chance of some rain, but this will be more of an annoyance rather than anything disruptive.”
The chilly outlook comes after an unusually warm start to the month pushed thermometers to 25.5C last Sunday, the warmest April day for two years.
The high temperatures, which rivalled Greece and Monaco, will return, with highs of 20C expected.
WeatherOnline forecaster John Ejdowski said: “From midweek most places will be dry with varying amounts of cloud and sunnier spells.
Meanwhile, the Pope stepped out to deliver his traditional “To the City and the World” message to thousands of pilgrims who gathered in St Peter’s Square.
He used the speech, watched by millions, to condemn Saturday’s deadly attack on a bus convoy in Syria.
