TERRY QUITS CHELSEA

- by JEREMY CROSS

JOHN TERRY will leave Chelsea at the end of this season.

The 36-year-old is quitting Stamford Bridge after nearly two decades in the first team after failing to agree a new deal with the Premier League leaders.

It is understood Terry is weighing up lucrative offers from the Chinese Super League and MLS in America.

The former England captain has made just four Premier League starts this season under Antonio Conte.

“After 22 years there is so much to say and so many people to thank at this great club,” said Terry.

“I will decide on my future in due course, but for now I remain committed to helping the team achieve success this season.

“The club and I have always had a fantastic relationship, which will continue beyond my playing days.

“We had some really positive talks, but with everything taken

into full consideration I’ve decided that the end of this season is the right time. I feel I still have plenty to offer on the pitch but understand that opportunities at Chelsea will be limited for me.

“I’m eager to carry on playing and so will be looking for a new challenge. I will always be a Blue and am desperate to end my final season as a Chelsea player with more silverware.”

Terry will go down as one of the greatest and most influential players in the club’s history.

The centre-back made his debut in 1998 and went on to make 713 appearances, captaining them a record 578 times en route to becoming their most decorated star of all time.

The no-nonsense defender has won four league titles, the Champions League, Europa League, five FA Cups and three League Cups.

Terry also won 78 England caps before retiring from international football in 2012.

GARY CAHILL has ordered Chelsea not to bottle their Premier League title bid. The Blues have seen their lead over Tottenham slashed from 13 points to just four in the space of a month.

“There’s only six games left and we are still in a good position,” said Cahill. “But we need to realise it’s not over, we need to realise there are points to play for and we have to dig in.

“No one is going to give us this league, we have to work for it, like we have done for the majority of this season.”
