TOP MARC FOR RASH

Young hails United ace

- By JEREMY CROSS

MARCUS RASHFORD has been backed to become one of the best strikers in the world.

The teenage terror produced a stunning performance to help Manchester United sink leaders Chelsea 2-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The 19-year-old scored the opening goal and gave the Blues defence the runaround from start to finish.

His display was so good that it meant United didn’t miss leading scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was rested by Jose Mourinho ahead of Thursday’s Europa League quarterfinal second leg with Anderlecht.

England boss Gareth Southgate was in the crowd and cannot fail to have been impressed by Rashford.

And team-mate Ashley Young is convinced he has what it takes to become one of the most feared hitmen on the planet.

Natural

“When he was coming through the youth team and reserves, you could see there was something special about him,” said Young.

“He plays the game with hunger. It comes natural to him. When he does things quick, I don’t think there are many defenders who can live with him.

“He was fantastic for us and we needed the outlet. When he can get in behind, he is a threat.

“He has a massive future in front of him, not only for Manchester United but for England as well.”

United are battling for a top-four finish but Young, who was named captain against Chelsea, insists they should be aiming higher.

United are four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand and face them a week on Thursday. ® “We have felt that kind of performance coming,” said former Aston Villa winger Young of Sunday’s victory.

“There have been a lot of draws at home.

“I don’t think a lot of people saw that scoreline coming but we did. We have belief in ourselves. A lot has been said about how we want to finish fourth, but I am that kind of person who wants to achieve more than that. I want to finish higher than that.

“If we can play like we did against Chelsea, then I am sure we can get through against Anderlecht and into the semifinals.”
