UP FOUR THE FIGHT

PREMIER LEAGUE Herrera’s rallying cry

- By MIKE WHALLEY

ANDER HERRERA insists beating Chelsea will count for nothing if Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions League.

The midfielder scored to cap a fine personal display as United kept alive their hopes of a top-four finish by beating the leaders 2-0 on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s side face a tough run-in with trips to Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham in the final month of the season.

Their best chance of a spot at Europe’s top table probably lies in winning the Europa League.

United and Anderlecht are level at 1-1 going into tomorrow’s quarter-final second leg at Old Trafford.

And Herrera insists that the final reckoning is all that will matter when it comes to judging whether this season has been a success.

“People remember the end of the season and now we are in the crucial moment,” said the Spaniard.

“There are still seven Premier League games and hopefully four more Europa League games.”

United are currently fifth in the table, ® four points behind rivals City in fourth with a game in hand.

But their league campaign has been blighted by nine home draws and an inability to turn possession into goals.

Herrera has been a shining light for Mourinho having been in and out of the side under Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman made the ex-Athletic Bilbao man his first United signing in a £29m deal in 2014.

Perform

Herrera added: “Nobody remembers this part of the season if I don’t perform well at the end. I am happy but I am not finished yet.

“This season has been the most regular one for me at the club and that is with Mourinho on the bench.

“I am very happy. He gave me, from the first day, a lot of confidence and he told me I was going to be an important player for him.

“I will always be thankful but football can change quickly.

“We have great players and Man United has the capacity to sign big players, so I cannot sleep.”
