VICTORIA Beckham cracked a rare smile as she picked up her OBE at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

She said it made her “proud to be British” when Prince William handed her the honour for services to the fashion industry.

POSH Victoria Beckham wore her finest frock to Buckingham Palace as she picked up her OBE from Prince William.

Just months after her husband David complained about being snubbed for a knighthood, the pop star-turned-designer was honoured for her contribution to fashion.

A beaming Victoria, 43, said she was “proud to be British” as she received her gong. Thanking her parents and husband for their support, Victoria, whose Spice Girl hits included Wannabe, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be at Buckingham Palace.

“I am proud to be British, honoured and humbled to receive my OBE from the Duke of Cambridge.

“If you dream big and work hard you can accomplish great things.”

The award comes 13 years after her husband was awarded his OBE for services to football. Becks looked on awkwardly as Victoria received her award following a string of leaked emails allegedly showed him calling the honours committee “ungrateful c***s” for failing to make him a Sir.

They led to claims the star only supported charities and good causes in order to get a peerage – accusations Beckham strongly denies.

Speaking ahead of her visit to the Palace, the mother-of-four admitted losing touch with most of her school pals over time.

She said: “I don’t have a lot of friends, but I’m surrounded by people I genuinely like to be with.

“I think a true friend understands that you can’t see them as much as you might want.”

Victoria, who appeared at the service with slightly messy hair, also said she hopes five-year-old daughter Harper, will not follow in her footsteps and grow up wearing too much make-up or revealing clothes.

She added: “I don’t want her to focus too much on her appearance.”

Victoria was joined at the Palace ceremony by Team GB heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill, who was made a Dame, and Wolf Hall actor Mark Rylance, who was knighted for his services to theatre.
