Says ANTHONY JOSHUA

® some distance from it and stay in my own lane. “As long as I’m happy, that’s what matters. “I’m not perfect but what I do, I do good. I’ll keep improving on it and if that’s good enough to get me through in boxing, then I’ll be satisfied. I know I can get better.” Saturday’s epic clash in front of 90,000 fans made the Watford man a British sporting icon. Promoter Eddie Hearn always believed he would be, but the breathtaking manner of his win captured public imagination. The next time he fights, the country will probably grind to a halt.

Even before the fight, rap star Dr Dre and music legend Elton John were in touch with good luck messages to confirm his star status.

Graham Norton wants him on his chat show, while major US networks are clambering over each other to book him for their programmes.

Joshua is not overly concerned with the hype. Instead he wants to follow the example of another great Brit – world No.1 tennis player Andy Murray.

Abroad

“I’ve met Andy,” said Joshua. “He loves his boxing. I think he would have enjoyed that fight wherever he was in the world.

“I’ve only just arrived. He’s done it for a long time, so he definitely deserves the credit he receives because of how long he’s been in the sport.”

There is talk of future fights in the US, Middle East, Nigeria – where his parents are from – and China.

“I don’t want to be known as a fighter who just fights at home,” said Joshua.

“If it gets to a stage where we want to travel abroad and the promoter links up with Showtime or HBO in America or some government wants to fund it, we’ll definitely go abroad.”

Joshua truly has the world at his feet.
