O’BRIEN AFTER CLASSIC RECORD

- by CHRIS GOULDING

AIDAN O’BRIEN gave the thumbs up for Churchill in Saturday’s QIPCO 2,000 Guineas.

O’Brien (left), as expected on the mark with Minding at Naas yesterday, now has his team in top form after a sluggish start.

Further success came with Dali, who like Minding was partnered by Ryan Moore. “Churchill is fine,” said O’Brien, seeking an eighth win in the Newmarket Classic, which would make him the most successful trainer in the race.

“Everything has gone well and it’s so far so good with him.”

Regarding Minding, O’Brien said: “We’re delighted to get her season started. She’s done well physically since last year and is very enthusiastic about racing.

“The Tattersalls Gold Cup might be next for her, although there is also the Lockinge to consider.”

Andre Fabre, successful with Cloth Of Stars in the Prix Ganay at Saint-Cloud yesterday, was also purring about his chances of winning the 2,000 Guineas with Al Wukair.

“I am quite confident that he will be in the first three on Saturday,” said Fabre.

“But I am a bit concerned that he was not a Group One winner as a two-yearold, something that most Guineas winners have achieved, including both of mine [Zafonic and Pennekamp].

“The ground is not a worry for him as he has won on soft and it was on the fast side when he won the Prix Djebel.”
