IF you’re looking for a way to get your next party started Sony may have just the thing.

The Japanese tech giant has launched its SRS-XB40 Bluetooth speaker which not only sounds good enough to fill any dance floor but also includes an in-built light show.

Like a real club this clever box can change the lighting effects depending on what music is pulsating out of its Extra Bass speakers.

That’s because hidden inside the SRS-XB40 is an LED perimeter line-light which changes to any colour in the rainbow, two lights which illuminate the speaker grille and, for when the music gets serious, there’s a pair of intense strobes.

This speaker is designed to be portable which makes it perfect for the festival season.

It includes an incredible 24-hour battery life plus, with a water resistant design, it’s able to survive a good soaking should the great British summer bring its usual supply of rain. Another nice feature is the ability to link it wirelessly with up to 10 Sony Bluetooth speakers to create the ultimate surround sound.

And there’s even an app which can control lighting and sound effects directly from your smartphone. VERDICT: StarTech has been annoying our neighbours for the past few weeks with the SRS-XB40 and we’ve been left genuinely impressed.

For a small speaker the sound quality is excellent and the Extra Bass mode helps add some punch to your tracks. The clever disco lights are also a huge amount of fun and are guaranteed to be a party pleaser.

There are, however, a number of annoyances including an irritating cover over the charging and connection ports, no handle to help carry it, plus the app feels a little cheap.

But even with these niggles we still love the SRS-XB40.

It’s bold, brash, loud and, with it’s in-built light display, a whole lot of fun. FED up paying pub prices? Well soon you’ll be able to easily brew your own beer from the comfort of your home.
