Stand up for Kenny
® LIVERPOOL are to rename the Centenary Stand at Anfield after club legend Kenny Dalglish.
The Reds will mark the Scot’s contribution to the club with the honour of being the first person to have one of the stands named after him.
Dalglish, 66, joined Liverpool in 1977 from Celtic and made 515 appearances for the club.
He also had two spells as manager and now holds the position of non-executive board director.
Dalglish won eight league titles, three European Cups, two FA Cups and five League Cups with Liverpool.
He played a massive role off the pitch, with his support for the relatives of those who died in the Hillsborough disaster and his extensive charity work for the city.
A club statement said: “Liverpool Football Club is blessed to have had many figures of significance all contribute to its illustrious history and they are also rightly honoured in various different ways.
“Dalglish’s values are the embodiment of ‘The Liverpool Way’, the ethos of Liverpool FC and it is for this reason the club have moved to honour him in this way.”
The official date for the renaming has not been confirmed but it is believed it will be from next season.
Whether the Dalglish Stand will get to witness Champions League football next season will depend on “three cup finals”, according to midfielder Lucas.
The Brazil ace believes the third-placed Reds need to win their final games against Southampton, West Ham and Middlesbrough to secure a top-four spot.
He said: “The three games we have left now are all finals and hopefully we can get the victories to secure the Champions League spot.”
