DE GEA WILL REALLY STAY

- By JEREMY CROSS

MANCHESTER UNITED have told rivals Real Madrid to forget about signing David De Gea.

Starsport believe United have no intention of selling De Gea to the Spanish giants at any price.

The keeper has not asked for a move and has told Old Trafford bosses he is happy where he is.

Real had been hoping to lure the Spain star to Madrid at the second time of asking.

De Gea came within a whisker of joining Real in the summer of 2015 for £23m but the deal collapsed at the last minute.

Missing paperwork saw the transfer fall through moments before the deadline, leading to a huge row between the two clubs.

Each blamed the other and United vowed never to do business with Real again, as exclusively revealed in Starsport.

De Gea went on to sign a new and improved deal with United worth £200,000 a week that made him the highest-paid keeper in world football.

In 2015 De Gea had just 12 months of his deal remaining, which left him vulnerable to being sold.

But United know now that De Gea is contracted until 2019, with the option of an extra 12 months. He is settled in Manchester now and United’s qualification for the Champions League again for the first time since 2013 has also strengthened the hand of boss Jose Mourinho.

United are expected to sign up to four world-class players this summer, with Antoine Griezmann and Romelu Lukaku top of their wanted list.

United also do not intend to sell Wayne Rooney unless he wants to go.

Rooney, 31, is considering his options and will make a decision on his future within the next fortnight.

Rooney has a season left on his £300,000-aweek deal.

He wants regular football but knows he might have to take a significant drop in wages unless he secures a move to China, which would end his fading England career once and for all.
