Robson tips Pogba to be Red leader

- by CHRIS McKENNA BRYAN ROBSON and Gary Pallister were speaking on behalf of Marathonbet, the Official Global Betting Partner to Manchester United.

MANCHESTER UNITED’S original Captain Marvel Bryan Robson believes Paul Pogba will one day skipper the Old Trafford outfit.

Wayne Rooney is the current club skipper and although Robbo wants him to stay, he accepts that at some point in the near future the armband will be passed on – and says the £89m Frenchman is in pole position.

Robson (below) said: “If he takes advice on board, and continues improving his performances, then Paul could be a captain who leads by example.

“I still think he has improved us. When he’s been missing, we miss a bit of something.

“Paul shows his strength and has that real ability and he can see a pass that splits defences. When he is missing, we don’t have that. “He sees people no matter where they are. Once he gets his legs going, he is strong, fast and powerful. “I’d like to see him hit the target a bit more and have more scoring opportunities, which will improve his game in that way.

“I think he is going to get better next year.”

Former United defender Gary Pallister believes Pogba was affected by a long summer at Euro 2016, during which he helped France to the final, and a drawn-out transfer saga. But he says Pogba will be better next term after a proper rest.

Pallister said: “With a full pre-season behind him I think we are going to see the best of Paul Pogba next season.”

However, Robson would still like current skipper Rooney to stick around, adding: “I would like Wayne to stay. He hasn’t had such a great season but he has scored goals and he has the ability.

“It is about how much desire he has to keep breaking records and keep going. It’s only Wayne who can make that decision.”
