Police to get tough

ENGLAND fans are facing a major crackdown for Saturday’s clash with Scotland in Glasgow.

The FA and police will adopt a zero-tolerance stance on fireworks, flares and any form of hooliganism, with security ramped up in light of the terrorist atrocities in Manchester and London.

FA sources confirmed that the 5pm kick-off, allied to disturbances from England fans in Dortmund, have put the authorities on red alert.

Security experts believe there is a lawless ‘stag do’ mentality among a section of supporters in the 18-25 age bracket.

There is also massive concern that more than 2,000 fans subject to banning orders will be able to make the trip

because passport confiscation isn’t applicable. It’s a major headache for the FA and police ahead of the World Cup qualifier at Hampden.

An FA security source confirmed police have massive concerns about the game, with England allocated 4,761 tickets.

Checks on fans entering the ground will be stepped up, given the terror threat remains at severe.

The source said there was “obviously a potential risk” for panic if any kind of firework was let off.

He also warned fans that street drinking is banned in Glasgow.

Firecrackers will top the banned list after over 1,000 Juventus fans were injured following a stampede in one of the city’s squares.

They were watching Juve’s Champions League Final with Real Madrid on big screens when a firecracker sparked mass panic.

The official England Supporters’ Club have banned fans for the first time after disturbances at the friendly against Germany in March.

They investigated 59 fans after the game in Dortmund, 20 of whom were members. Two were banned for life, 14 for varying other periods and four received warning letters.
