LUI LIGHTS UP DEVILS

-

ROB LUI put Salford’s season back on track with a ruthless showing.

Some fans feared the club’s fortunes were on the wane following three Super League defeats on the trot.

But they destroyed the Giants to move back up to second and leave Huddersfield looking over their shoulders.

Stand-off Lui was superb, scoring a try and helping set up another five in two lethal purple patches.

The first came in seven first-half minutes when Junior Sa’u, Lui and Kriss Welham rampaged over.

The second devastating spell saw the Red Devils rip in for four tries in 13 minutes early in the second half.

Gareth O’Brien, Sa’u, Greg Johnson and Ben Murdoch-Masila Yp ALC@< JKFKK all went in to send a warning to the rest of Super League.

Coach Ian Watson said: “After three losses, we did not want to say we have had a good season up to that and that was it.

Flirting

“There have been a few negative comments from people saying we have run the race. But this group is not about that.

“We want to be really successful. A true team bounces back.”

Defeat for Huddersfield – their first in five games – drops them down to eighth and leaves them flirting with danger.

They are just two points ahead of Catalans, and the Middle 8s mix, with three games of the regular season left.

Coach Rick Stone said: “We are going to need to win at least two out of the next three games, that’s for sure.”

Huddersfield took the lead with a Leroy Cudjoe try and also grabbed an Aaron Murphy try to trail by eight points at the break.

But Salford’s four-try blitz after the interval, which included two 40-20s from Michael Dobson, took the game beyond them.

Kruise Leeming and Darnell McIntosh scored late consolation tries but Huddersfield now face a big fight to avoid a relegation scrap.
