Sanches will be Swan to watch

- by ALEX BYWATER

RENATO SANCHES has been backed to find his feet and prove himself a Swansea star.

New loan signing Sanches had a Premier League debut to forget in the 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle last Sunday.

The Portuguese midfielder (below) looked off the pace and gave away possession on numerous occasions before being hauled off.

But Swans boss Paul Clement believes the Bayern Munich star, 20, will bounce back against Tottenham at Wembley today.

Clement said: “Renato feels he did some good things against Newcastle and some things he could do a lot better, but he is fine and training well

“All players get criticism, all players get praise, and it’s the same with Renato.

“He will improve very quickly once he settles down with a new language, new team-mates and in a different culture. “His attitude is positive and he feels settled here. “Renato has played at Wembley for Portugal against England, so he’s experienced it there. “We believe in him. He is a great young talent. “I think, if you went around the group, it would surprise you how many of our players have been there. They’re used to playing in big stadiums.” Clement is set to keep faith with Sanches against a Spurs side who hammered Swansea 5-0 at White Hart Lane last season. He added: “We’ve got lots of memories of last season – some are good and some are bad. “Spurs is not one of the good ones, but it was also a big learning experience for everybody.”
