Pulis plans new bid to Bagg Deeney

WEST BROM are considering another shot at signing Watford captain Troy Deeney in January. Boss Tony Pulis will consider offering the striker an escape route from Vicarage Road after the striker again found himself on the bench. The 29-year-old is expected to be a substitute again this afternoon when the Hornets travel to The Hawthorns. He has yet to start a Premier League game this season and Pulis is desperate for a striker with his side having scored just four times in six league games.

But Pulis, who was put off by Watford’s £25m asking price in the summer, admits Deeney (left) could yet revive his Vicarage Road career.

“In two weeks’ time someone might get injured, Andre Gray might lose some form,” said Pulis.

“Then Deeney comes in and scores a few goals, then the window opens and all of a sudden he’s the No.1 striker. It is continuously moving all the time in football and the situation with transfers and recruitment is never solid.

“We were desperate to bring a No.9 in and that’s the position that we never managed to fill in the summer.

“But having said that we are confident we will score goals if we keep creating chances.”

Pulis hopes his side’s luck will change today with the appointment of referee Michael Oliver. He awarded Albion two penalties the last time he took charge of this fixture in April 2016 – although Saido Berahino missed both in a 1-0 defeat.

Pulis’ men have not had a penalty for over a year and were furious on Monday when Bobby Madley failed to punish a Shkodran Mustafi challenge on Jay Rodriguez in their 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

“It’s not the first time we haven’t got what we thought we deserved or the first time another club hasn’t got what it thought it deserved,” said Pulis.
