A CUT above even the coolest of caravans, the Airstream trailer gleams against the green, green grass of the Welsh countryside.

Fellow staycationers at White Lodge Caravan Park in Newborough, Anglesey, stop to admire our aerodynamic piece of Americana.

A curiosity in the camping world, some even ask for a look inside.

Every rounded inch of this snazzy silver bullet is designed with style and practicality in mind.

Soft contoured seating, which transforms into a double bed, is dressed with monochrome geo-print cushions and curtains.

There’s a sleek, shower room with sink, loo and heated towel rail. Kitchen facilities include a Corian worktop, Franke sink and clever hidden storage.

The recent rise of hipster glamping holidays has sparked the brand to relaunch in the UK this month – and it’s certainly moved with the times.

Airstream now boasts its own app which enables music to be played from the speakers throughout. The central heating is operated by a touch-screen.

There’s also interior mood lighting and an option for a roof-mounted satellite dish on the Yukon model we stayed in at White Lodge. The Yukon, which ® sleeps two to three, retails in the UK at £84,995.00.

The largest four-berth Colorado costs £91,995.00 and the Missouri is £78,495.00. See airstream-uk.co.uk.

Surrounded by green fields and mountains, campers at White Lodge are ideally situated to visit the Marram Grass Cafe, created by chef Ellis Barrie, this year’s north west finalist on the BBC’s Great British Menu. Opting for the tasting menu we sampled mussels, Anglesey sea bass, lobster risotto and Welsh black beef.

Along with trips to Anglesey’s Blue Flag beaches and Snowdonia National park, we visited striking Beaumaris Castle. We also drove to Halen Môn, the Anglesey Sea Salt Company, where we got to see how it’s made.
