On City’s scoring spree

Brave Wolves put brakes

-

Aguero had a sight of goal and three times the crowd buzzed in anticipation as he pulled the trigger and aimed for his own piece of City history.

After five minutes, Wolves goalkeeper Will Norris saved comfortably from his 20-yard shot.

Then Aguero shot uncharacteristically wide of goal from just a dozen yards after Raheem Sterling drilled a cross-shot through the area.

Committed

After Conor Coady half-cleared another City attack it was Aguero’s snap-shot from the edge of the area that sailed over.

But while they were not creating anything on the break to trouble City, the Championship leaders were doing well at the back.

After 24 minutes, it took a strong, committed run from Sterling to open up a halfchance which the England man rolled just wide.

Sterling and Bernardo Silva combined well only for more dogged Wolves defending to block a shot from the latter.

The visitors grew in confidence as the half wore on and City were still being held at bay.

It took a diving save from Bravo to keep out a Bennett header with Enobakhare sending a follow-up shot just over.

After the break it was not long before City – and Aguero – were on the hunt for that elusive goal with the striker shooting straight at the keeper then finding the side-netting from Sterling’s brilliant volleyed cross.

Aguero was starting to look a bit desperate as he let fly with another shot from long range which flew wide. But Enobakhere was denied again by Bravo near the end as the game went into extra-time.
