KILLER CLOWNS BURGER BUNFIGHT

Fast food giant blasted for scary advert targeting rival

FAST-food giant Burger King seems to take a pop at rival McDonald’s in a scary “killer clown” advert for a free Whoppers stunt.

The ad has also sparked fears that sick pranksters could hijack the event for Halloween.

BURGER King is urging youngsters to dress up as “killer clowns” this weekend – in exchange they will get a free burger.

The chain is offering a complimentary Whopper to the first 500 youngsters who turn up at its flagship Leicester Square restaurant in London dressed as clowns between 7pm and 3am on Saturday.

The PR stunt could be seen as a cheeky dig at rivals McDonald’s whose mascot Ronald McDonald is a clown.

But there are fears it could backfire if sick pranksters try to hijack it.

Your Daily Star reported last week how the sick “killer clown” craze, which first emerged last year, is back with a vengeance.

Last Tuesday teenagers wearing creepy clown masks and orange jumpsuits were spotted jumping in front of cars and scaring mums out with their children.

The Burger King’s posters feature a clown that looks eerily similar to the murderous Pennywise – the villain in Stephen King’s novel It, which was made into a high-profile hit movie this year. The sick craze swept across Britain in 2016 with the first person in British legal history prosecuted for scaring kids last October.

Jobless Connor Jones, then 18, was handed a £90 fixed penalty notice for scaring children outside a school in Caerphilly, South Wales.

Just days later a student dressed as a “killer clown” was arrested on Brunel University campus in Uxbridge, London, for wielding a chainsaw.

Kenny Ojuederie, a 19-year-old first-year student, was detained by police after YouTube footage of the sick prank emerged.

Thames Valley Police also revealed they were called to over 14 killer clown incidents in less than 24 hours in the weekend before Halloween 2016. Burger King have been contacted for a

comment.
