BEN BAGS BIG DEAL
BEN WOODBURN has signed a new five-year deal at Liverpool. The teenage ace has been rewarded for his impressive progress since becoming the club’s youngest goalscorer last season. Woodburn, 18, also scored with virtually his first touch in international football on his debut for Wales in September. “It’s an unbelievable feeling to sign a new contract with Liverpool,” he said. “This is the Turn to P44
club I want to stay at and be here for as long as possible. When I was told, all I wanted to do was sign the contract.”
Boss Jurgen Klopp admits he is excited by Woodburn’s potential.
“Ben is that perfect balance of talent and attitude,” he said.
“One of either is okay – to fulfil your potential at the highest level you need to have the maximum of both.
“I like that he is prepared to be patient. He has already had some big playing moments, for Liverpool and of course Wales. Ben knows how committed we are to him and he and his family know this is the best environment for him to grow, learn more and become even better.
“What a talent this young man is. We don’t call him the Prince of Wales for nothing, although judging by his facial expression when we do he would probably be happy if we stopped with this.”
Woodburn, who joined the club as an under-seven, has made only one first team appearance this season – in the 2-0 League Cup defeat by Leicester in September.
