THE BBC is investigating one of its own radio presenters over accusations he groped female colleagues.

The broadcaster – who cannot be named for legal reasons – is said to approach colleagues from behind to put his hand up their skirts.

He is alleged to have assaulted at least eight female staff in six years – sometimes in front of shocked colleagues.

Four of the women have now submitted ® formal complaints and are calling for him to be fired immediately.

But BBC bosses have instead launched a secret investigation into their accusations.

Only four of the women have given statements and it is claimed the others are reluctant to do so because of fears it could damage their careers.

They are said to have the backing of one of the Beeb’s top female radio presenters, who is encouraging more victims to come forward.

The first complaint was made to bosses a week ago, and some of the women are said to be angry that the presenter is still on air while the probe gets under way.

A BBC spokesman said: “We can’t comment on individuals but treat any allegations seriously and have processes in place for investigating them.”

More than 70 sex offences committed by DJ Jimmy Savile are said to have taken place at the Beeb. PLEA: Mogul
