In-demand Dyche so crucial

- By TIM ABRAHAM

BURNLEY defender Stephen Ward says Sean Dyche is a pretty tough taskmaster – but the players would be devastated if he left.

The Clarets boss (right) has been linked with the Everton job after Ronald Koeman was sacked last week.

But Ward insists he is desperate to see him remain at the traditional Lancashire club.

“Training is up there with the toughest I’ve ® had,” said the 32-year-old ahead of tonight’s home clash with Newcastle.

“I really enjoy it and I’m probably as fit as I’ve felt in my career. It took me about two or three weeks to get used to it.

“It’s the same with everyone, they can’t believe the fitness of the squad and how hard we work.

“You never hear anyone moaning about it because you know if you want to play in a Sean Dyche team you have to work hard.

“It’d be a blow to lose him, of course. It’s down to the club and the manager himself. If he stays it’ll be great for us.”

Republic of Ireland full-back Ward admits he is not shocked that Dyche is being linked with the Goodison Park hot-seat.

“You see he’s favourite for this job, favourite for that job,” Ward added.

“It’s no surprise given the work he’s done here. He seems to really enjoy his role and the decision seems to be down to him.

“You’ve got players in the squad linked to moves all the time and you might lose a member of the squad. That’s football.

“Since I’ve been here the gaffer’s been linked with a job every couple of months.

“He obviously has ambition but we’re happy he’s here. Hopefully he will stay here for this season.”
