Goal ace makes life breezy for Brighton boss
CHRIS HUGHTON says he is in the perfect position as striker Glenn Murray claimed his third goal in two games.
The 34-year-old headed Brighton’s equaliser to salvage a point after the Seagulls had fallen behind to a Steve Davis strike.
After being forced to wait for his chance before fellow striker Tomer Hemed picked up a ban, Murray is beginning to show the form that brought him 23 league goals during last season’s promotion campaign.
Brighton boss Hughton said: “Right at this moment, I am in the ideal position, where I have got two No.9s who are really pushing to get a place in the team. Hemed
was in really good form before the ban and Glenn would say the fact that he was injured restricted his opportunities.
“So it is the best position for me to have two who are really pushing to have a start.
“It’s a good position for the team to be in. Hemed had a really good summer and came back in really good shape.
“Of course he was really unfortunate with the ban, but if these things motivate a player to stay in the team, with other players pushing them, it’s the best position for a manager to be in.”
Hemed was back on the bench after serving his suspension for stamping on Newcastle’s DeAndre Yedlin.
But it was Murray who struck the decisive blow, directing a well-placed header past Fraser Forster.
Hughton added: “I thought it was an excellent header from Glenn and I thought there was only one place he could score and that was in that corner.”
