CORRIE star Bruno Langley has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a club.

The 34-year-old actor, who plays openly gay character Todd Grimshaw, will appear in court next month. He has been sacked from the soap after ITV cancelled his contract. Langley was yesterday charged with two counts of sexual assault following an alleged incident at Manchester’s Band On The Wall on October 1.

Dream

A woman in her 30s reported she had been sexually assaulted. Langley had gone there to watch former Corrie colleague Craig Charles perform a DJ set. A police spokesman said: ““At around 1am on October 1, police received a report that a woman in her 30s had been sexually assaulted at a music venue on Swan Street in the Northern Quarter.” Langley made his Corrie debut in 2001 and was the soap’s first openly ® by JERRY LAWTON gay character. His boyfriend in the soap is currently the Rev Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

His first stint on the show lasted three years after which he returned briefly in 2007 and 2011 before becoming a permanent fixture again four years ago.

He has a son Freddie, 10, with ex-girlfriend Victoria Roscoe. Their eight-year relationship ended in 2012.

Announcing his departure from the show at the weekend, Langley, who has denied any wrongdoing, said: “Sadly I’ll no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream.

“Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life.”

Some fans angry at his departure have vowed to boycott Corrie. On social media sites they accused ITV of double standards for sacking Langley while costars previously facing sex allegations were allowed to stay pending trial verdicts.

He will appear before Manchester magistrates on November 28
