CONEYGREE BACK ON TRACK

PAGES OF FANTASTIC START WITH HORSE RACING

- By JAMES RICHARDSON

THE Cheltenham Gold winner of 2015, Coneygree, heads a high-quality list of 13 entries for Saturday’s Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby at the latest confirmation stage.

His trainer Mark Bradstock has had this race in mind as a starting point for the season subject to suitable ground.

He could be joined by the Colin Tizzard-trained Cue Card, who won the race in 2015 and was third 12 months ago.

Sizing Codelco could also represent the Dorset trainer.

The in-form Nigel Twiston-Davies has both Blaklion and Bristol De Mai under consideration for the three-mile Grade Two contest.

Others in the mix include David Pipe’s National sixth Vieux Lion Rouge, the Brian Ellison-trained Definitly Red and Village Vic from Philip Hobbs’ stable.

Frankie Dettori has been booked to ride Ulysses in the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

Jim Crowley was on him when he won the Coral Eclipse and Juddmonte International before his third in the Arc.

He is part owned by the Niarchos family and Cheveley Park Stud.

Chris Richardson, who is Cheveley Park’s managing director, said: “It was nothing to do with us. It was all done between the Niarchos family and Sir Michael Stoute as the horse is still running in their colours.

“It was part of their agreement to run at the Breeders’ Cup and they are totally in the driving seat. They have control of his race in America. We were not involved.”
