WELL-wishers are rallying round the survivors of a blaze which killed six family members.

David Cuthbertson, 68, is believed to have died in the inferno along with five of his children.

But his final act was to lower the three children who survived from a window of the burning farmhouse.

David was left trapped upstairs and overcome by the heat and smoke.

The fire in Llangammarch Wells, Powys, was so ferocious police have been unable to formally identify the remains.

A fundraising page set up to support the survivors had last night raised more than £6,300 in less than 24 hours.

Colin Ashton wrote: “Very very sad. A really nice man and a real family man.”

Michele Hart wrote: “Donated with love.”

Tributes were also left at the scene by a heartbroken local community. A little girl left a note saying: “I knew you all ® in school. I will miss my best friend.”

The children who died in the tragedy are thought to be aged between four and 11.

Classmates of the children said one of the young boys loved to play with matches. But this has not been confirmed by police and they have not indicated the fire was caused in this way. A major investigation has been launched.

Supt Jon Cummins said the scene of the blaze “is very complex and perilous”.

The youngsters’ mum, Judith, moved to Greece three years ago.
