AFC WIMBLEDON boss Neal Ardley slammed Marcus Maddison after the Posh star went from playmaker to play-actor.

The 24-year-old made one and scored one for Peterborough but then hit the deck after going head to head with Wimbledon midfielder Liam Trotter.

And furious Ardley said: “He will be embarrassed when he sees it, when he watches it back. I don’t agree with trying to get a fellow player sent off.

Handbags

“To try to get someone sent off is disappointing. It’s not what we want in the game.

“There was no way that anyone tried to throw a head at each other. They were just head to head, giving each other the eyeballs, handbags at 10 paces.

“But he is a really good player and super talented boy.”

Both Maddison and Trotter were booked after the 85th-minute flashpoint. But it took the gloss off a League One thriller with Maddison showing just why he is so highly-rated.

After Wimbledon had taken the lead just 37 seconds in through Lyle Taylor’s 20-yarder – his sixth in six games – Peterborough took control.

It was Maddison’s 26th-minute freekick that led to Danny Lloyd heading in his first League goal for the club via the post and Barry Fuller’s head.

And 12 minutes later Maddison made it 2-1 as he converted a penalty after a rash challenge by Tom Soares.

The struggling Dons would have climbed out of the drop zone with a victory but were left relieved in the end to rescue a point after Cody McDonald buried his effort in first-half stoppage time from Deji Oshilaja’s long ball.

Praise

Posh were searching for a place back in the top six and had the better chances in the second half, especially when the ball was at Maddison’s feet.

Posh boss Grant McCann heaped praise on the winger, who has attracted interest from top clubs.

“To be honest, I didn’t see the incident, there were lots of bodies,” he said. “I’m not taking anything away from Marcus. He was top class.

“Marcus had an assist and a goal. We are lucky to have him.”
