STORM DYLAN: A HARD RAIN’S GONNA FALL

Brits fear battering by Xmas

- By ANNABEL HOWARD news@dailystar.co.uk

TORRENTIAL rain and 70mph gales are set to ruin Christmas as Storm Dylan threatens to unleash a battering.

The onslaught would be Britain’s fourth named storm of the winter and could spark chaos across the festive period.

Forecasters have warned travellers to check for weather updates.

Storm Dylan – reminding many of Blowin’ In The Wind and A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall singer Bob Dylan, 76 – will follow Storms Aileen, Brian and Caroline.

The Weather Outlook has forecast 60mph gales in the north and 50mph gales in the south in the days up to December 25.

And they predict 70mph gales after Christmas Day.

Misery

It is set to be the third Christmas in a row hit by weather chaos.

The 83mph Storm Barbara saw 15,000 power cuts and disrupted travel last year.

Storm Eva’s 80mph winds caused Christmas Eve travel misery in 2015, with the Army called in on Christmas Day as floods swamped the north.

Met Office forecaster Mark Wilson said: “People should stay in touch with warnings.

“A notable change to very mild conditions for all could see 15C on Tuesday in eastern Scotland, with south-west England a degree behind as a south-westerly flow arrives from the Azores.

“But it will be windy for western and northern Scotland with 55mph gusts. Thursday and Friday could see 50-60mph gusts in northern Scotland.

“Saturday starts a run of a day of wet conditions with stronger winds.”

MeteoGroup forecaster Paul Mott said: “There’s certainly potential for a named storm.”

Punters are still splashing the cash on the chance of a white Christmas.

Coral reported a flurry of bets at the weekend and is offering 1-2 for snow in any major city on the big day.
